Accuracy in Media

WASHINGTON — Technology continues to reach new levels and heights. Now, there is an app that will test your blood alcohol level and could call a cab for the slightly-intoxicated user.

breathometerReuters reported that the Breathometer, for Android and iOS smartphones, and BACtrack (for iPhones) are the groundbreaking apps.

It is a concerted campaign to prevent and limit drunk driving, which has led to 1.2 million arrests in the U.S. in 2011 for driving under the influence of alcohol.

The Breathometer app is used when it is plugged into a smartphone’s headphone jack and the user blows on the device. BACtrack connects to the iPhone via Bluetooth and is used that way. Both are accurate to the 0.01 percent and whose sensors meet the U.S. Food and Drug Administration standards.
