Accuracy in Media

WASHINGTON — Nancy Pelosi, the House Minority Leader, appointed five members of her party to participate in the Benghazi committee, which is a special panel that is going to investigate the truth behind the 2012 attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya.

636_Nancy_Pelosi_handsReuters reported that Elijah Cummings (Maryland), Adam Smith (Washington state), Adam Schiff (California), Linda Sanchez (California) and Tammy Duckworth (Illinois). The Republicans are South Carolina’s Trey Gowdy (the chairman of the panel), Martha Roby (Alabama), Lynn Westmoreland (Georgia), Jim Jordan (Ohio), Mike Pompeo (Kansas), Peter Roskam (Illinois), and Susan Brooks of Indiana.

The terrorist attacks took place on the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. Four Americans were killed, including the U.S. ambassador to Libya. Ever since then, the Obama administration has covered up the truth behind the attacks and what they knew and the liberal media has complied with that narrative.

Obama sent his then-ambassador to the United Nations, Susan Rice, on the Sunday morning television circuit to tell the public that the attacks were due to a “spontaneous” protest. The administration, for a time, said the protest started because of an amateur, anti-Islamic film, which eventually led to an attack on the consulate and the deaths of the four Americans. However, that version was debunked as more evidence and witness testimony arose about the attacks. And, the administration withheld information about their media strategy after the attacks even after it said it had complied with Freedom of Information Act requests. Due to this action and refusal to reveal the truth, it seems to be shaky ground for the administration to claim they complied with the requests.

AIM’s Citizens’ Commission on Benghazi was the first group to call for a special panel to investigate the attacks, and were successful in that. Check out their website at
