WASHINGTON — The most wanted man in Mexico, drug cartel kingpin Joaquin “Shorty” Guzman, was caught by Mexican security forces.
Reuters reported  that the Sinaloa cartel leader was caught with help from American agencies. It was one of best political victories of current Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto.
Guzman is known as “El Chapo”, or “Shorty” in Spanish, and led the Sinaloa drug cartel for the past decade. He was caught in his native state of Sinaloa, located in northwestern Mexico without a shot fired. Guzman’s cartel is a major smuggler and has fought a serious turf war with other drug cartels, costing the lives of tens of thousands of Mexican civilians. Attorney General Jesus Murillo Karam confirmed Guzman’s identity.
Pena Nieto has been in office since 2012 and congratulated the security forces on Twitter and the American government applauded the arrest as well.
