WASHINGTON — A truck carrying nuclear weapons material was taken by thieves while en route outside of Mexico’s capital city, Mexico City.

radioactive signReuters reported that thieves often steal trucks in the city of Temascalapa, but the material was the dangerous chemical cobalt-60.

The theft sparked fears of a “dirty bomb” and concerns of terrorism, but the truck was found and the material was found somewhat nearby.

It seemed the thieves did not know what they were stealing and opened the package, exposing them to one of the most dangerous radioactive material.
