Lebanon arrests 2 Suspects in Mosque Bombings

WASHINGTON — The brutal double bombing of mosques [1] in Tripoli, Lebanon has led to the arrest of two suspects.

lebanon mosque bombing aftermath [2]Reuters reported [3] that the two men’s plot killed at least 42 people at the two mosques. One was a Sunni cleric that has close ties to the Syrian government.

The Lebanese military court accused Sheikh Ahmad Gharib and Mostafa Houri of preparing bombs against two Sunni mosques in the city of Tripoli, forming armed groups to attack government buildings and organizing a terrorist cell.

Lebanon is on the brink of a full-scale civil war [4] as Sunni and Shi’a elements are attacking each other, especially as the religious strife is increasing across the border in Syria. It does not help that Lebanon-based Shi’a terrorist group Hezbollah entered the Syrian civil war [5] on the side of Syria’s government regime, led by Bashar al-Assad.

This comes as a time where a car bomb [6] blasted a Hezbollah-friendly suburb in the capital city of Beirut and a pro-Assad government figure was assassinated [7], among other violent developments.
