WASHINGTON — Jordanian Islamist fighters are now returning home to Jordan from the Syrian civil war, which worry Jordanians, their leaders and others.
Reuters reported that Jordanian authorities are wary of Jordanians returning home from war, especially if they decide to try to to unseat the longtime Jordanian monarchy.
The Hashemite kingdom, a longtime American ally in the Middle East region, has suppressed Islamist militants who have threatened the stability of the country and kingdom. U.S. military trainers have been working with Jordanian military forces on securing their borders against Islamist fighters heading to their country. At one point during the civil war, Jordan closed their main border crossing with Syria.
