WASHINGTON — Hackers tried to overrun Sony Entertainment’s popular PlayStation gaming platform to gain access and steal user’s information, but was stopped by security measures.
Reuters reported that the PlayStation platform went back online this past Monday after the hacking attack, which frightened consumers whose informationĀ could have been stolen. Some 53 million users could have been affected by a successful hacking attack.
It had been hacked in 2011, which hurt consumer confidence in the company and their products, and Sony hopes that PlayStation’s recent rebirth and reboot could help stop flagging sales.
Their latest gaming console, PS4, launched in February 2014 while Sony is trying to up their smartphone game to compete with Samsung and Apple.
