Accuracy in Media

WASHINGTON — Liberal media hypocrisy at its finest? GOP staffer Elizabeth Lauten, a communications director for Tennessee Republican congressman Stephen Fincher, resigned after posting a comment to her own Facebook page about the daughters of U.S. President Barack Obama.

As the Washington Post reported, Lauten posted the following after seeing Malia and Natasha make bored faces at the annual turkey pardon at the White House:

“Dear Sasha and Malia, I get you’re both in those awful teen years, but you’re a part of the First Family, try showing a little class”

“Rise to the occasion. Act like being in the White House matters to you. Dress like you deserve respect, not a spot at a bar.”

She was forced to resign, which she did Monday, even after posting an apology on Facebook hours later. But, there was no similar outrage by the media when others had criticized family members of prominent Republicans like Sarah Palin.

After the much-publicized Palin family brawl, one media host actually laughed and joked about it. CNN anchor Carol Costello said, “sit back and enjoy” an audio recording where Bristol Palin (daughter of Sarah Palin) talked about her injuries in the family fight. Yet she was not fired or forced to resign.

Media hypocrisy at its finest.
