Google close to buying out Israeli map app Waze

WASHINGTON — All the start-up successes are being bought out, one by one. The most recent? The crowd-sourcing map app Waze.

google [1]Made in Israel, Waze uses updates from drivers on the road to tell other drivers on the Waze app of impending traffic jams, accidents and traffic flow.

Reuters reports [2] that Waze has about 47 million members and was offered about $1 billion by Facebook. Google’s offer seems to have won out and should be higher than Facebook’s offer.

Map apps are one of the most-used mobile apps to get users from one place to another, and now tech and social media giants are closing in on that industry.
