WASHINGTON — The French Socialists have again tried to limit free market capitalism and continues to do so against large firms like Amazon and Google.
[1]Reuters reports [2] that the French Socialist government is considering a limit on Amazon’s free delivery service and discounts, saying that it is “unfair competition”.
This comes on the heels of the Google Tax [3], where France was looking to hike taxes on large firms like Google. Amazon has also received flak for its tax practices [4] in Britain and Apple has been criticized for paying taxes in Ireland [5].
It is another wrinkle in relations between the French government and American companies like Amazon and Google, where France demands that these American companies should pay more in taxes.
