France frees Imprisoned Aid Workers in Mali

WASHINGTON — Five local aid workers were freed from imprisonment by French troops in Mali.

french flag in mali [1]Reuters reported [2] that no details were released about their captors or how they were captured, but these local aid workers were kidnapped and held since this past February.

Four of the workers worked for the International Committee of the Red Cross and were freed close to the northern Malian city of Timbuktu. They were reported to be in good health.

Mali has been in turmoil since Islamists nearly took over the country’s government, until the French military intervened and rapidly beat back the Islamists [3] to their northern mountainous hideouts. Ever since the end of the short war, Islamists have attacked the country from their hideouts time and time again [4].
