Former Obama adviser Bill Daley exploring Illinois Gov. bid

WASHINGTON — Following the footsteps of his father, Bill Daley is exploring a bid for a higher office.

bill daley [1]Bill Daley’s family has been a constant presence in Chicago and the state of Illinois for decades, with both his father and brother serving as mayor of Chicago at some point in time.

He has formed an exploratory campaign, according to Reuters [2], and is putting out feelers on a potential gubernatorial bid as a Democrat. He is looking to unseat current Illinois incumbent Pat Quinn in the Democratic primary, who has struggled to keep the state’s financial picture solvent.

Daley served as a White House Chief of Staff under Barack Obama from January 2011 to January 2012. He faults Quinn for failing to pass budget measures in a recent legislative session and as a reason for his gubernatorial bid.

“We can’t wait for the legislature to get well on its own,” Daley said. “We need a governor who takes the field, takes command and gets things done.”
