DOJ investigates American Airlines, US Airways on Merger

WASHINGTON — The Department of Justice is keeping busy throughout all the scandals. This time, the DOJ is investigating the planned merger of American Airlines and U.S. Airways.

american airlines [1]Reuters reports [2] that the DOJ is specifically taking depositions as a part of probing into the proposed merger of the two airlines. This merger would create the world’s largest airline, which brings concerns of antitrust laws into the discussion.

The DOJ is asking the airlines to sell off slots, take off and landing rights in order to reduce their dominance at Washington, D.C.’s Reagan National Airport. That, the airlines said, was non-negotiable.

Eric Holder and his DOJ are heavily criticized for their monitoring of Associated Press reporter’s phone lines [3]. This investigation into companies only increase the wariness of Americans toward Obama’s Department of Justice.
