WASHINGTON — Climate change, or global warming, scientists claim that rising global temperatures could push up sea levels for centuries to come.
Reuters reported that the scientists said that six glaciers have seen their mass chipped away and melted by warming sea waters in Antarctica, and which claim was based on analysis from satellite radar measurements from 1992 to 2011.
The study’s lead author, Eric Rignot of University of California-Irvine, said that the glaciers in West Antarctica have “gone into a state of irreversible retreat.” He also works in NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.
