Democratic protesters threatened a sit-in if the central government came down with the decision that Beijing, not Hong Kong residents, will choose the city’s next leader.

The senior leader, Zhang Xiaoming, is in charge of China’s Liaison Office in Hong Kong, apparently told local lawmakers “The fact that you are allowed to stay alive, already shows the country’s inclusiveness.”
