Car Bomb explodes in Hezbollah suburb in Lebanon

WASHINGTON — The Syrian civil war has spilled over into neighboring Lebanon as a car bomb exploded in a Hezbollah-dominated suburb in the capital city of Beirut.

hezbollah car bomb [1]Reuters reports [2] that at least 38 people were wounded in the bombing and killed one employee who was in the parking lot. Lebanon is split between Hezbollah supporters and anti-Hezbollah supporters, which also happens to be split along ethnic and religious lines.

Hezbollah has officially entered the Syrian civil war on the side of the Syrian government regime led by Bashar al-Assad. Hezbollah is composed of Shi’ite Muslims that support Assad, while some Lebanese support the Sunni Muslim rebels. The West is now forced to intervene [3] as Hezbollah is trying to turn the tide of the civil war to bolster Assad.

Even after calls for peace and calm have been issued by Lebanese leaders, this car bombing suggests otherwise. Hezbollah crushed a protest outside the Iranian embassy in Beirut and shot and killed one protester [4] last month.
