WASHINGTON — In a bizarre twist of events, convicted soldier Bradley Manning said that he is a woman and would like to be assigned to a woman’s prison facility.
Reuters reports that the U.S. Army denied him his request, which caused a stir on the news cycle and on social media. Their policy is to not pay for the gender hormone treatment and imprison those who’ve sentenced to their appropriate prison facilities, men or women.
Bradley Manning was sentenced to 35 years in military prison for passing along sensitive and classified military documents to the infamous leak website Wikileaks, headed by Julian Assange. He gave over 700,000 secret files, videos and diplomatic cables over to Assange and his team of leakers.
He said that his name is Chelsea, which led to a plethora of jokes on Twitter.
