Anthony Weiner out, de Blasio a possible Shoo-In as NYC Mayor

WASHINGTON — Anthony Weiner, who was the frontrunner for New York City mayor to replace Michael Bloomberg, fell out of the running after a brief rise to the top of the polls.

anthony weiner lost mayor race [1]Reuters reported [2] that Bill de Blasio, a liberal that is running to the left of the centrist-liberal Bloomberg, won the Democratic Party nomination for mayor.

He was sitting fourth in the polls before making a charge to the top, after Weiner made a couple of blunders that the New York City public could not overlook. He avoided a runoff, which was a possibility, after garnering more than 40% of the vote in the primary.

Bloomberg had served as the city’s mayor for 12 years.

For the Republicans, Joe Lhota, who was former New York City mayor Rudolph “Rudy” Giuliani’s deputy, won 52.6% of the vote in the primary. He’ll now square off against de Blasio, who favors wealth redistribution regulations (aka tax the rich and wealthy).
