WASHINGTON — Gaza Strip militants, most likely backed by the terrorist group Hamas, launched a rocket into Israel this past Wednesday and enraged Israeli leaders. This happened after the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank and Hamas in Gaza agreed to form a unity government to negotiate with Israel.

muslim brotherhood anti israelReuters reported that Israel holds Hamas responsible for the rocket attack, as they have launched rockets for years at Israel.

No claim was made by Hamas regarding the rocket attack, which is almost commonplace in Israel. No one was hurt and no property was damaged in the rocket attack. But, this comes at a bad time as the Palestinians are trying to coalesce to negotiate with the Israeli government.

Mahmoud Abbas, the former leader of the Palestinian Authority and now the leader of the Palestinian unity government, has been pushed to control the Hamas militants in Gaza. Abbas condemned the attack, said the official Palestinian news agency WAFA.

Israeli spokesman Mark Regev, who works for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said that Abbas’ statement was “nothing but empty rhetoric”.
