WASHINGTON — Another Democratic congressman has decided to step down at the end of this year. Henry Waxman, a liberal Democrat from California, said he will step down this year.
Reuters reported that Waxman, who was a key backer of the failed health care law ObamaCare (or its official name, the Affordable Care Act) and other liberal initiatives.
Waxman had been serving continuously since 1974 and is resigning at the same time as other prominent Democrats. Another California Democrat, George Miller, has also decided not to run for re-election.
Some say that the resignations of these Democrats in the House show that the Democrats feel they have little odds of retaking control of the House of Representatives in the 2014 midterms. On the flip side, several embattled Democratic senators are facing stiff re-election battles due to their support of ObamaCare.
