WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced that Google’s Android mobile operating system is the primary target for malwar attacks in their recent study.

android osReuters reported that Android, which is widely used, has users that have not updated their software on their devices and leave their devices open to malware attacks.

In 2012, Android was a target for an astonishing 79% of malware attacks on mobile operating systems, with text messages being about half of the malware attacks. 19% attacked Nokia’s Symbian system and 1% at Apple’s iOS, Microsoft’s Windows and BlackBerry.
