WASHINGTON — The liberal mainstream media got the distraction it wanted, to divert attention away from the Veterans Affairs scandal that has further wrecked U.S. President Barack Obama’s domestic strategy.
Reports are circulating that American soldier Bowe Bergdahl actually deserted his U.S. Army unit (as CNN reported) and that several of his Army colleagues died trying to search for him. Also, his father’s tweet about liberating other known terrorists from Guantanamo Bay was promptly deleted after it made the news cycle.
Reuters reported that Karzai is livid that he was kept in the dark about the deal, which was brokered by the Obama administration through the Middle Eastern country of Qatar. Bergdahl was held captive for five years, although even though the Pentagon (the headquarters of the U.S. Department of Defense) said that he was a deserter.
Karzai is worried that the Americans will continue to cut deals behind his back, which undermines his legitimacy in Afghanistan. It also does not help that Obama made a public announcement of his drawdown of U.S. troops in Afghanistan, which some blasted as revealing too much information to an aggressive Taliban foe and compared it to Iraq’s current instability (after the U.S. announced their schedule for withdrawal).
