The militant homosexual lobby likes to complain about an alleged anti-gay media bias, but the 17th Annual GLAAD Media Awards, held on April 9 in Los Angeles, was aired by two cable networks, the CBS-affiliated Logo and VH1. The affair was sponsored by a booze company, Absolut Vodka. Teri Hatcher and Nicolette Sheridan of ABC’s “Desperate Housewives” show kissed each other on the lips, in a major “photo opportunity” for the assembled press. Shirts from the movie “Brokeback Mountain” were auctioned off for $100,000.
Actress Charlize Theron won the “Vanguard Award” for portraying a lesbian serial killer in the movie “Monster.” The award was for increasing the “visibility and understanding of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.” But I still don’t get it as to why this was supposed to be an advance for the homosexual community. One website lists Aileen Wuornos as one of five lesbians among prominent homosexual serial killers.
Theron has been quoted as saying that she and her partner, Stuart Townsend, will not marry “until gay and lesbian couples attained the legal right to marry.”
At the earlier version of the GLAAD media awards, held in New York City on March 27, Soledad O’Brien, news anchor for CNN’s American Morning, was one of the noted participants. The winners included:

Reflecting its award for “best newspaper coverage,” USA Today ran a review of the GLAAD event, saying about the award for Theron: “Even serial killers deserve a little love. Apparently.”
