Accuracy in Media

On October 18, the Sunday edition of The New York Times delivered a shocking message to its readers from Admiral Thomas H. Moorer, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Adm. Moorer, a veteran Navy aviator, said in a full-page ad that the government must tell the truth about the cause of the crash of TWA Flight 800. The ad said the FBI had interviewed 115 credible eyewitnesses who saw an object now believed to be a missile streak upwards high into the sky and explode near TWA Flight 800.

It said, “The FBI has refused to release these eyewitness statements, and the National Transportation Safety Board (the NTSB) refused to let a single one of the eyewitnesses appear at the highly publicized final hearing on the cause of the tragedy.” It asked, “Why the secrecy? The eyewitness statements make it clear that government agencies are covering up the real cause of the TWA Flight 800 tragedy. And the major news media have gone along with this unprecedented suppression of eyewitness testimony. They are aiding the government’s cover-up.”

The ad said that the witnesses and evidence never before released tell us that two missiles brought down TWA Flight 800. It explains that an investigation conducted by retired Navy pilot and crash investigator, Commander William S. Donaldson, found that most of the eyewitnesses on Long Island saw an object rising from close to shore heading south. One highly credible witness who was at sea reported seeing an object rising from the surface of the water, heading north.

Maj. Fred Meyer, a Vietnam veteran flying an Air National Guard helicopter, reported seeing two bright white explosions which he said were clearly ordnance. They were followed by a fuel explosion, orange-red in color. The last line recorded by the airliner’s flight data recorder clearly reflected the impact of a high-energy explosion near the plane. It blew the nose-wheel doors in, shredding a tire. Possible traces of explosives were found on the exterior of the plane, but the government brushed this evidence aside. The ad said all this, and more was in the report Commander Donaldson gave to the news media last July, which the major media refused to report.

The Associated Retired Aviation Professionals said in their ad, which Accuracy in Media paid for, “We were outraged, and we think every American should be. It seems absolutely clear that the news media are cooperating with the government’s efforts to cover up what really happened.” They asked the public to join Admiral Moorer in demanding that the news media report the facts and put an end to the cover-up by the government.

The ad asked for donations to help run this powerful ad in other newspapers around the country. You can help end the cover-up by sending a tax-deductible donation to help run the message from Adm. Moorer and his Associated Retired Aviation Professionals in other publications. Send your donation to Accuracy in Media, 4455 Connecticut Ave., NW, Washington, DC 20008.
