Washington NPR station to stop airing White House coronavirus briefings due to ‘false or misleading’ information

An NPR station in Washington announced it will no longer air the White House’s coronavirus press briefings due to “false or misleading information” being disseminated by the Trump administration on the virus.

“KUOW is monitoring White House briefings for the latest news on the coronavirus — and we will continue to share all news relevant to Washington State with our listeners,” the station tweeted. “However, we will not be airing the briefings live due to a pattern of false or misleading information provided that cannot be fact-checked in real time.”

Republican National Committee spokesperson Liz Harrington responded by criticizing the taxpayer-subsidized station’s decision.

President Donald Trump has been heavily involved with the press briefings and as a result, his approval rating for his handling of the coronavirus hit 60 percent, according to a new Gallup poll.
