On NBC’s Meet The Press on Sunday, former NBC Nightly News anchor Tom Brokaw told host David Gregory that it was “tough to see” how Attorney General Eric Holder keeps his job in light of the Justice Department leak investigations that have enraged the press.
Brokaw: Boy, I think it’s tough to see how he does in this case. It’s up to the President.
Brokaw added that while Holder has the support of David Axelrod and the White House spokesman, there are others who say that it would be better if he left and better if the President cleaned this up.
Obama has been fiercely loyal to Holder despite the Justice Department’s penchant for scandals—Fast and Furious anyone? But now that it’s the media’s ox being gored—and complaining loudly about it—he may have little choice but to push out his longtime friend and ally in an effort to quell the scandal that is helping to suck what little life is left in his second term.
The reality is that this is an Obama scandal more than it is a Holder scandal. If Holder had done what he’s done as a rogue or independent Attorney General, he would have been gone a long time ago. It is clear that he is doing exactly what the President wants him to do, but the weight of the scandals may have reached a point where his continued service is too much of a distraction.
When liberals in the media like Brokaw start predicting Holder’s demise, you know he’s in real trouble.
