Veteran NBC News anchor Tom Brokaw praised President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, Judge Neil Gorsuch, while questioning why Democrats would want to fight this nomination, during an appearance Friday on MSNBC’s Morning Joe:
“For example, there’s going to be a big pushback on the part of the Democrats about Judge Gorsuch. They’re going to make that one of the testing places for them. The fact is that this man has a very distinguished background in the judicial world. He has a doctorate from Oxford. I have friends in the federal judiciary who don’t agree with his philosophy, but say there is not a better judge in the federal circuit right now than him. So why pick that as a fight, because who are you going to get next?”
Brokaw added that the Democrats have a lot of reconstruction to do of their own party and should be in the middle of America asking what they need to do, rather than reelecting Nancy Pelosi after having lost three elections.
Considering that Gorsuch was unanimously approved for the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals in 2006 by a Senate that included 12 Democrats who are still serving today, and that there is a lack of any truly controversial rulings by Gorsuch during the last 10 years, the Democrats have chosen to fight a battle that they are sure to lose—one that even a liberal like Tom Brokaw realizes is a fools errand.
