While the rest of the country was observing a moment of silence yesterday to mark the time when the first plane hit the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, The Today Show chose to air an interview with “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” star Kris Jenner.
The slip-up was noted by TV Newser’s Alex Weprin, who reported that both ABC’s Good Morning America, and CBS This Morning carried the moment of silence, as did NBC’s cable news network MSNBC.
The local NBC station in New York actually broke into The Today Show to cover the moment of silence, and in doing so only highlighted the difference between the network and its competitors.
Reaction was swift on Twitter with users calling the decision a “major fail” and a “new all time low.”
NBC defended the network’s coverage with Today Show spokesperson Megan Kopf telling Politico that they had “dedicated a considerable amount of time to September 11th coverage this morning throughout the entire show.”
They may have covered other aspects of the 9/11 ceremonies, but to skip the moment of silence for an interview about breast implants is inexcusable.
No wonder their ratings have sunk.
