“Today” Show is No. 1 Morning Show—On Social Media

The Today show has had a rough time in the last couple of years after it ceded the top slot in the morning show ratings to ABC’s Good Morning America. But late last week, the show received some good news of sorts when Carson Daly announced that it was the No.1 morning show on the largest social media platforms—Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest.

Today.com VP and GM Jen Brown spoke with TV Newser about the show’s success on social media:

Our growth is reflective of being fast to adopt new platforms and mindful of translating TODAY in a way that feels organic to specific social spaces. We really respect what our social audience brings to the TODAY experience. We continue to elevate our fans through efforts like the Orange Room and beyond. #JustGettingStarted.

The Today show’s success on social media is to be congratulated, but it doesn’t solve the most pressing problems of the program, which are to restore the profitability of the show and regain the top slot in the ratings.
