Accuracy in Media

GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, who has been cable news ratings gold for the past year, is still working his magic at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland despite only briefly appearing before the delegates on Monday night.

Fox News Channel led the way with 5.5 million viewers between 8 and 11 p.m., up 7% from 2012, and 1.3 million viewers in the key 25-54 demo, an 11% gain from 2012. Right behind Fox was CNN, with 3.6 million viewers, up 200%  from 2012, and 1.18 million in the demo, a 220% increase. MSNBC trailed the group with 1.9 million viewers, a 46% increase from 2012, with 489,000 in the demo, up 39%.

More than 22 million people watched the convention across broadcast and cable in the 10 p.m. hour Monday night when Trump’s wife Melania gave her much anticipated speech, once again showing the star power of the Trump name.

I expect the remaining nights will also show increases over 2012, with Thursday night, when Trump gives his acceptance speech, being a potential record-breaker.

The liberal media may not care much for Trump, but they love the increased ratings he has brought them.
