Sharyl Attkisson: Far-Left Media Matters “Targeted Me,” Were Possibly Paid Off [Video]

In a lengthy interview with CNN’s Reliable Sources Brian Stelter, former CBS investigative reporter Sharyl Attkisson said that left-wing media watchdog group Media Matters “targeted her” and may have been paid off to do so.

Attkisson told Stelter that critics are trying to controversialize her reporting in an effort to discredit stories they don’t like.

Stelter then asked if that’s what Media Matters was trying to do, noting that they have been campaigning against her:

Media Matters, in my understanding, is a far-left blog group that I think holds itself out to be sort of an independent media watchdog group. And yes, they clearly targeted me at some point. They used to work with me on stories or try to help me to produce my stories and at some point… When I persisted with Fast and Furious and some of the green energy stories I was doing, I clearly at some point became a target. I don’t know if someone paid them to do it or they just took it on their own.

Stelter thought it was interesting that she had such a close relationship with Media Matters, and asked her if she thought it was possible that they were paid off.

“Well, they get contributions,” Attkisson said. “That’s what some of these groups do, absolutely.”

Media Matters was okay with Attkisson’s reporting when she was working with them or cooperating with them, but as soon as she started exposing the truth behind Fast and Furious, Benghazi, etc., she became a pariah and a target.

I don’t know if this is true or not, but it wouldn’t exactly be out of character for the group, which accepted a $1 million donation from left-wing financier George Soros in 2010 to fight Fox News and target Glenn Beck, who was a frequent Soros critic. Beck left Fox News in 2011 and has thrived, while building his Blaze television, radio and Internet empire.

If there is one thing Attkisson has learned from her experience with Media Matters, hopefully it is that she should never have trusted the left.
