After a better than expected debut week, ratings for Keith Olbermann’s new Countdown fell steeply last week.

Olbermann only attracted 93,000 viewers in the key A25-54 demographic which represented a 29% drop from the previous week and was much closer to Eliot Spitzer than target Lawrence O’Donnell who now occupies Olbermann’s former time slot at MSNBC.

The overall  audience numbers fell 28.5% to 253,000, which is far more than the 15,000 viewers who tuned into Current pre-Olbermann, but still far behind the major cable news networks the show is competing with.

Olbermann has said he won’t focus on the week-to-week ratings and that he is in it for the long haul, but that ignores the fact that advertisers do pay attention to the ratings and without them it could be a much shorter trip than planned for Keith.
