Accuracy in Media

You would think that a veteran broadcaster like Keith Olbermann would know better than to pick a fight with conservative bulldog Andrew Breitbart, but as is often the case with Keith, his ego gets in the way and he just couldn’t resist.

On Monday, Olbermann’s Countdown guest Markos Moulitsas created a stir when he said that no one really cares about the rape allegations at the Occupy Wall Street encampments:

“This movement has gone far beyond the actual protests themselves. The message itself has taken on its own meaning. It’s sort of kind of almost broken free from the Occupy protests, so they can be as filthy and they can rape people — if you want to make stuff up — but the fact is nobody really cares about it because that message isn’t about the messenger, it’s not about who’s delivering a message, but it’s about the message itself which really resonates at a very core emotional level with people who are suffering in this economy.”

Following that outrageous statement, Olbermann tweeted that “No Occupy rapes, no cover-up, no apology, no retraction, and no credibility …,” and accused Breitbart of making the whole thing up to discredit the protesters.

Big Journalism fired back and posted a list of all the assault related stories to counter Olbermann’s charges that no real crimes were committed.

Olbermann, rather than just accepting Big Journalism’s explanations, took to the air and spent an arduous seven minutes debunking the list.

During the last “debunking,” Olbermann backed off his “No Occupy rapes” tweet, saying that “almost none of the allegations are of rape and most of this list are duplicated,” then altering that to “2 stories duplicated,” and then, “Occupy MEMBERS were victims.”

Olbermann then went further out on a limb when he tweeted, “Here’s a wager: @DLoesch and @AndrewBreitbart will NOT post the video of tonight’s debunking.”

Only one problem. Not only did they post Olbermann’s video, they posted a detailed debunking of Olbermann’s debunking, which has apparently left the egomaniacal anchor speechless for now and looking foolish to boot.
