Accuracy in Media

Speaking before a group of House Democrats in the Capitol, President Obama defended his former National Economic Council director Lawrence Summers from attacks by the liberal media that he isn’t fit to run the Federal Reserve.

obama huffpoSummers and current Fed vice chairwoman Janet Yellen are considered to be the leading candidates to replace current chairman Ben Bernanke, who is expected to step down at the end of the year.

The New York Times recently endorsed Yellen and criticized Summers for not pushing for a larger stimulus bill, which had been recommended by Obama economic adviser Christina Romer. The Times’ criticism, however, paled in comparison to The Huffington Post’s, which published a series of columns in July calling Summers a corporate shill, because of his close Wall Street ties.

Obama felt that those charges are off base and “unfair” to Summers, and told the group “not to believe everything you read in The Huffington Post.”

That may have come as a bit of a shock to his fellow Democrats, but for a change Obama actually spoke the truth.
