NY Times Reporter: Obama Administration is “The Greatest Enemy of Press Freedom” in a Generation

New York Times reporter James Risen, who is battling the government to protect one of his confidential sources, lashed out at the Obama administration during the Sources and Secrets conference in New York last week, calling it “the greatest enemy of press freedom that we have encountered in at least a generation.”

According to Poynter [2], Risen also accused the administration of wanting to “narrow the field of national security reporting,” and to “create a path for accepted reporting,” warning that any journalists who exceeds those parameters “will be punished.”

Risen isn’t the only journalist who has been critical of the White House’s treatment of reporters. Last year, former White House reporter Bob Franken said that the White House was the “most hostile to the media” in history.

And just last  January, New York Times executive editor Jill Abramson called [3] the White House the “most secretive” that she’s ever been involved in covering, while MSNBC’s Chuck Todd said they were “selectively secretive” and “very controlling.”

This isn’t exactly the payback the liberal media expected when they helped get Obama elected and re-elected, but that’s what they got and will have to live with. Do I hear a little buyers’ remorse?
