National Rifle Association Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre blasted the mainstream media for their recklessness and dishonesty, at the organization’s annual meeting in Indianapolis on Friday.
LaPierre said that political dishonesty and media dishonesty have linked together in this county, and joined forces to misinform and deceive the American public.
He then took it straight to the journalists at the convention by saying that the political elites are lying to them about bills they pass—without having read them—and then the media eagerly defend them, along with health care, economic and foreign policies that are reckless.
LaPierre went on to attack the media over their coverage of the Obama scandals:
Rather than expose government dishonesty and scandal like they used to, the media elites whitewash it all. ‘Move on,’ they tell us, there’s nothing to see here, don’t worry.
One of America’s greatest threats is a national news media that fails to provide a level playing field in this country for the truth.
He added that the media’s attitude is “truth be damned,” telling the audience that they can tell that the media are lying to them because they still call themselves journalists.
The NRA has long had an adversarial relationship with the media. But unlike Republicans in Congress, who too often let the media define the issues, the NRA has decided to fight back and expose the liberal bias of the media on the gun issue.
With five million members and 100 million gun owners, the odds are that the NRA will win this fight in the end.
