Accuracy in Media

MSNBC news anchor Contessa Brewer tried to discredit guest Rep. Mo Brooks’ (R-AL) economic credentials during a discussion of the debt ceiling debate only to have the attempt blow up in her face.

Brewer:  You’re simplifying the issues that were on the plate of the nation at that point. I mean we were looking at going – averting a Depression at that point, everyone the Fed chairman . . .

Brooks:  Well I disagree that we were going into a Depression, but go ahead.

Brewer:  Do you have a degree in economics?

Brooks:  Yes Ma’am I do, highest honors.

Bam! Talk about stepping into it.

According to Brooks’ biography he “graduated from Duke University in three years with a double major in political science and economics, with highest honors in economics.”

Brooks’ economics degree easily trumps Brewer’s broadcast journalism degree when it comes to who is better suited to talk about economic issues and, left Brewer looking like just another liberal media fool.
