Left-wing filmmaker Michael Moore may have overestimated the public’s interest in his new anti-Trump movie, “Fahrenheit 11/9” as it flopped at the box office in its opening weekend. The film made in just $3.1 million from 1,719 screens. That averages out to just $1803 per theater.
The results were a big disappointment for a film that the Wrap said was expected to gross $5 million – $7 million.
This was in contrast to Moore’s 2004 movie, “Fahrenheit 9/11,” about the George W. Bush administration. That film took in $23.9 million in its opening weekend and finished with $119 million in domestic ticket sales.
Moore timed the release in an effort to influence the mid-term elections and help the Democrats retake the House, but with such dismal results, the film is likely to have a negligible impact.
