Accuracy in Media

MSNBC announced today that Meghan McCain, the daughter of Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), is making her debut on the network as a paid contributor. Actually she was outed as a new contributor, apparently to her surprise, by Thomas Roberts, an MSNBC daytime anchor, back on November 2.

McCain, who has frequently appeared as a guest on MSNBC, will give the network some cover since she is a Republican. But she is unlikely to toe the GOP line very often, much like her father. That will make her a perfect fit for the liberal news programs on MSNBC where she will carry the “R” label, but will probably spend most of her time bashing Republicans, much to the network’s delight.

In a statement released by MSNBC this morning, McCain said, “It’s a unique opportunity to share my perspective as a Republican on a network I respect and have built a relationship with over the past two years.”

She joins Jenna Bush Hager, daughter of former President George W. Bush, and Chelsea Clinton, daughter of former President and current Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, to the NBC/MSNBC family. Good to see hardworking journalists rewarded for their talents. McCain’s debut will be today at noon on NOW with Alex Wagner, who until getting her own show was a frequent contributor on Hardball.
