Media Ignore MSNBC Host Moderating Partisan White House Forum

The mainstream media double standard was alive and well last week when MSNBC’s Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski moderated a discussion at a White House forum on “Women and the Economy.” While she, and the forum, received plenty of publicity, there was very little criticism of Brzezinski’s role in the event.

Brzezinski kicked off the forum by saying that they were “going to be looking at the accomplishments of this White House as it pertains to women and the economy.” Brzezinski then stated that there are still a lot of challenges ahead and work to do, but that they should celebrate what has been done “especially the past few years by this administration.”

It’s not unusual for journalists to moderate debates or forums, but in this case Brzezinski did so at a White House-sponsored event with a partisan agenda, as she alluded to in her opening remarks. But virtually none of her colleagues in the media raised an objection.

For the White House, Brzezinski’s participation was a calculated move to give their one-sided forum an air of credibility. But it was clear from what Brzezinski said that it was to be nothing more than an Obama White House love fest regarding his policies towards women, without any criticism of his administration.

If this had been a conservative journalist in a Republican White House, we would never hear the end of it. But since it was a liberal journalist in a liberal White House, they both get a pass from their friends and allies in the mainstream media.

This isn’t the first instance of this type of double standard. And you can count on the fact that as the presidential campaign heats up, there will likely be more such kowtowing towards the White House in an effort to give Obama an edge in November.
