Accuracy in Media

At the May 16th graduation ceremonies of George Washington University in Washington D.C. , University president Stephen Trachtenberg told the graduates “If anybody has a mortarboard, you can move your tassels from right to left, right to left.”  Some students chuckled at the remarks, but many were left wondering whether or not their ears had deceived them.  When asked whether or not this was another example of academia imposing liberal values on the students,  University spokesman Matt Lindsay responded yesterday by saying “His politics are known, I would say, but I don’t think he’s trying to impose them on anybody.”  Nice try, but I don’t think many people will buy that line.

This is not the first and it certainly won’t be the last example of political correctness at our colleges and universities.  It tends to become even more pronounced at graduation time as most of the commencment speakers are liberals or outright leftists.  Once again the message is that conservatives need not apply.
