In case you haven’t noticed the environmental movement isn’t what it used to be. While I disagreed with the policies and practices of groups like Greenpeace and the Sierra Club, at least they were focused on the environment.
Now we have groups using the green or environmental banner in an effort to promote a wide range of issues. This was very evident at last weeks Green Festival held in Washington D.C. The festival was sponsored by Global Exchange a group that is dedicated which bills itself as a membership-based international human rights organization dedicated to promoting social, economic and environmental justice around the world. The other sponsor was CO-Op America who wants to create a socially just and environmentally sustainable society.
The environmentally oriented topics included The Feminist Majority , Green Jobs/Environmental Justice, Green Jobs Not Jails and the very green CODEPINK: Stop the Next War Now! Guest speakers included Eleanor Smeal and Dennis Kucinich who haven’t exactly been known for their save the planet speeches.
Just like the anti-war movement being largely driven by the communists, this is also being co-opted by the far left. As one festival vendor put it “People who are interested in the green movement are also really interested in peace.”
In other words this green movement is really a deeper shade of red.
