Sinclair Broadcasting Group has announced that it has hired former CBS News investigative reporter Sharyl Attkisson  to host a new national Sunday morning  program that will air on its affiliates.

The 30-minute show will launch in the fall and will be “a blend of investigative and political journalism, with a focus on accountability.”

“We are excited to have Sharyl on board as we launch this group-wide news program,” said  Vice President of News for Sinclair Television Group Scott Livingston. “Our goal is to provide the context and perspective on major issues impacting our viewers. Sharyl has a proven track record of exposing the truth behind stories that other news organizations shy away from. I admire Sharyl’s determination and passion to seek the truth. Her unwavering commitment to exposing government waste, abuse and impropriety will be the foundation of our news program.”

“Americans are thirsty for reporting that holds powers-that-be accountable, whether they are politicians, corporations or other special interests,”  said  Attkisson. “I am excited about the opportunity to report on untouchable subjects in a way that can reach even more viewers than my stories touched in the past.”

Since leaving CBS, Attkisson authored the New York Times bestseller Stonewalled, appeared regularly on Fox News’ MediaBuzz, and has been the senior independent contributor for the Heritage Foundation’s digital news site, The Daily Signal.

Sinclair, which is based in suburban Baltimore, Maryland, “owns and operates, programs or provides sales services to 162 television stations in 79 markets,” according to its website, including an ABC affiliate in Washington, D.C. where the program will be based.
