Accuracy in Media

MSNBC was forced to suspend yet another on-air personality on Thursday after pundit and Time editor-at-large Mark Halperin called President Obama a d*** on the Morning Joe program.

But in the opinion of FishBowlLA’s Matthew Fleischer, the blame for Halperin’s suspension should go to Joe Scarborough for egging him on and then selling him out.

Scarborough told Halperin to “Take a chance, have faith.” But if Fleischer is looking for a scapegoat for Halperin’s undoing then he should cast his ire at Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski, who really egged him on by telling him to “Go for it,” which he proceeded to do.

But even Halperin admitted that he was solely to blame:

“Joking aside, this is not a pro-forma apology. It’s an absolute apology. Heartfelt to the president and to the viewers. I became part of the joke but that is no excuse, I made a mistake and I am sorry and I shouldn’t have said it. As I said I apologize to the president and to the viewers”

Fleischer apparently was too busy looking for a Republican scapegoat to notice that by asking about the seven second delay, Halperin showed he was dying to express his true feelings and didn’t need to be egged on by anyone to do so.
