Appearing on The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell, The Washington Post’s Eugene Robinson praised Hillary Clinton’s current strategy of avoiding making decisions or answering questions, because it has helped her remain the defacto Democratic presidential nominee in 2016.

O’Donnell asked Robinson if he thought that Clinton is feeling lucky that she isn’t a senator and therefore doesn’t have to make her mind up about things like attending the Netanyahu speech to Congress next month. Robinson responded:

You bet, she can, you know, spend that day, gee, off giving a paid speech if she wants. She can spend it however she wants. She doesn’t have to make that decision. In fact, she is the happiest, she’s gotta be the happiest politician in America right now because the strategy of kind of, waiting and waiting and waiting and not announcing has worked wonderfully for her. She still is the de facto nominee and she hasn’t had to come out and state a position on really much of anything, so good on her.

Once she does declare her candidacy and has to start answering questions, Democrats may find that she isn’t their best option after all. They may decide to take a closer look at some other potential candidates like Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), who is the darling of the left and has been urged to challenge Hillary, which she has declined to do so far. But that could change if Clinton stumbles.
