Daily Beast culture writer Ira Madison, who ignited a firestorm after he referred to new White House Press Secretary as a “butch queen” in a tweet on Friday, has now apologized.
“Butch queen first time in drags at the ball,” read the original tweet, which included a picture of Sanders and has since been deleted.
Apologies to Sarah H. Sanders for the ill-judged joke tweeted Fri, deleted this AM. I didn't mean to offend anyone & I'm sorry that I did!

The term “butch queen” refers to a gay man that is “neither extremely feminine, nor extremely masculine and can easily portray both mannerisms.”
Madison took a lot of heat on Twitter after the post and from conservatives, but a quick check of The Washington Post, New York Times and CNN websites showed no mentions of the incident, perhaps because it was a liberal who made a personal attack against a conservative and therefore not newsworthy in their eyes.
