Accuracy in Media

According to reports in TMZ and Gawker, ABC’s decision to have former Today Show co-host Katie Couric fill in this week on Good Morning America hasn’t gone over well with many of the show’s staffers.

According to Gawker, both regular co-host Robin Roberts, who is on vacation this week, and Elizabeth Vargas, who anchors the network’s 20/20 program but makes frequent appearances on the morning program, are furious with the decision to use Couric this week.

TMZ reports that staffers are “pissed off” with the move and see it as an insult to the well-liked Roberts.

For ABC, which is desperately trying to catch the Today Show, it is definitely a blatant ploy to try and juice the ratings and see if Couric can regain a little of her morning show magic, after failing miserably as the anchor of the CBS Evening News.

But ABC may wind up being foiled in the end as The Today Show had former GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin on yesterday, which seemed to draw far more attention than Couric’s GMA appearance and may have negated any potential Couric bump ABC was hoping for.
