CBS anchor Gayle King calls Stacey Abrams ‘extremely qualified’ for vice-president

CBS This Morning anchor Gayle King fawned over Georgia Democrat Stacey Abrams on Tuesday morning, saying the former Georgia gubernatorial candidate is “extremely qualified” to be vice president of the United States.

Despite Abrams’s lack of political experience beyond her stint as a Georgia state legislator, she has been openly lobbying to become Joe Biden’s running mate in the 2020 presidential election. During the interview, Abrams touted her voting rights work — she is currently leading the “Fair Fight 2020” campaign, as well as her “competence and skills and willingness to serve.”

King stopped Abrams from continuing to focus on her vice-presidential aspirations.

“That’s a great nuts-and-bolts answer because everybody knows you’re extremely qualified,” King said. “I’m looking for something about Stacey Abrams the person. Why is she a good choice and have you had any talks at all with the Biden team?”

Abrams said she has been in contact with the Biden camp in “recent weeks” and discussed voter-rights issues with them.

She also appeared on ABC’s The View, where she told co-host Sunny Hostin that she thinks that Biden is “going to make a smart choice” in picking a running mate, but she does have “concerns” about Biden “not picking a woman of color.”

Abrams lost the gubernatorial election by 55,000 votes and refused to concede until every vote was counted.

Biden told a Pittsburgh television station that he would take Michelle Obama “in a heartbeat” if she would accept.
