During a discussion about guns in America in the aftermath of the shootings in Tucson on Saturday, Tom Brokaw expressed his own views on gun control.
Gun control is too simple a phrase to define all the complications and nuances of it, frankly. In Arizona they have a wide open system. I would be nervous about going into a bar or restaurant in Arizona on a Saturday night where people can carry concealed without permits.
And Alaska and Vermont plus some of the other 45 states that issue concealed carry permits.
Law abiding citizens who carry guns do so for their own protection not because they want to shoot someone, but that seems to be lost on Brokaw who was conjuring up an image of the old wild wild west saloons with his bar comment.
