Bob Schieffer Asks Robert Gibbs: “What Ever Happened to Hope and Change? [VIDEO]

Last week Democratic Mayor Cory Booker of Newark, NJ created quite a stir when he expressed his disgust with the Obama campaign ads attacking Bain Capital and the private equity industry.

Sunday on CBS’s Face the Nation, host Bob Schieffer asked senior Obama campaign adviser Robert Gibbs about the tenor of the campaign, comparing it to 2008:

Schieffer: One of the refreshing changes when the President was elected, he talked about hope and change.  Whatever happened to hope and change? Now it seems like he’s coming right out of the box with these old-fashioned negative ads, that all campaigns seem to think is the basis of all campaigns.

Gibbs responded saying that Romney has been critical of the President’s policies and so the Obama campaign is only more than happy to talk about Romney’s record of job creation in virtually every step of his life. He added that this campaign will be about “who are you going to be better off with in the next four years?”

If the voters plan on ignoring the highest unemployment in more than a generation, record deficits, an expensive national health care law, and an economy that is slowing down and threatens to fall back into recession, versus a fiscally responsible Republican businessman and former governor, then yes, the answer must be Obama.

And that’s what happened to hope and change.
